Rahul Not Babloo!

The blog should have been named Rahul and not Babloo. But I didn't want the name Rahul to appear as a part of the URL. I decided to keep the name "Rahul" away from all kind of hype and hence decided on Babloo, which is the pet name of one of my best friends, Rahul.

Rahul. This perhaps was the favorite name for the Bollywood leads in the post "Dil to pagal hain " period. Shah Rukh Khan started it with 'Dil To pagal Hain" and viola!!!! Almost every other romantic lead in every other movie was called "Rahul". I really don't know what the name "Rahul" means but thanks to the Bollywood obsession with this name, "Rahul" now makes me think of a lively, engertic and romantic guy who plays a guitar with atleast one or two beautiful babes giving him company.

I was lying because the name "Rahul" reminds of someone who is very dear to me. All the Rahuls I have met in my life have been intelligent, smart and successful. I was in nursery when I came across the first "Rahul". He was taller than me. In fact he was one of the tallest in the class. Dad ensured that I was in the rat-race when I was a kid. Rahul as far as I remember was not in it. Hmmmm... I am talking about the primary days ( nursery to fifth). There were occasional flashes of brilliance from Rahul in Maths but nothing of the magnitude that would make him enter the top five in the section. All that changed in class VII. Rahul started doing well in almost every subject. The chemistry mam used to ga-ga over him whenever he shouted the Chmical formulae from the back bench ( remember he was tall ). By the time we were in Class X, he was among the top-five in the entire class and not just the section. He got a good score in the board exams. The farewell day in the school was perhaps the last time I met him. The entire lot in our class including me opted for Maths while Rahul opted for Biology. Thanks to the dull, drab and mechanical educational system during class XI and XII in this part of the world, I could never meet Rahul. Two years later while I was hanging my head down in shame pondering about my 5 digit ranks, Dad called me and showed Rahul's photo in the paper. Rahul got a rank of 67 ( and God !!!! He was also a product of the dull, drab and mechanical educational system like me ).Rahul would be doing his post-graduation in some part of the world now or may be he is already a doctor.

The second Rahul ( i.e the second person in my life with the name "Rahul" ) was my colleague at the IIT coaching center. He was looked upon as one of the heavywights and true to the tag he got a 120 something rank in IIT (it's an All India Rank buddy). I did not know him personally but then this is another instance of a successful Rahul.

I had spent one year of my life trying to gain a seat in a good engineering college. I didn't meet any Rahul during this one year. Later I found 3 Rahuls in the engineering college that I had joined. All the three were good in their own way ( sounds something like "Every human is good in his own way " ). One of them is one of the premier management institutes of the country. The other two had jobs in one of the big Indian Software firms. Both of them are still working there. Did I say both of them? No, I am wrong one of them has quit recently... yeah I am talking about "The Rahul" of this blog.
